A must read for any business owner

I've read a few business books in my time but a lot of successful biz owners seem out of touch with what is happening at grass roots level in today's business world. Brad Burton is different. When you read this book you know he has made all the mistakes you have and celebrated the same successes that you are now. He writes in a straight talking, direct way and is also incredibly funny.

Through reading his book you'll travel with him from the initial lows of being out of work through to where he is today; the MD of the successful 4Networking business. He'll tell you the stories from his first days of self employment and 'dicking about' pretending to be busy, having to take a part time pizza delivery job to put food on the table when things didn't quite go to plan at first, the early days of taking a dream and turning it into reality by realising the benefits of finding people with complementary skills to your own all the way to now when he has 200+ 4N groups in the UK and is about to become international. Along the way you will laugh out loud but at the same time you'll learn lots from this book. The best thing for me is that Brad is still the same approachable guy he was at the beginning and he genuinely wants you to achieve what he has. I promise you, you won't regret one minute you spend reading this book and the next time you are having a 'down day' come back and read it again. You'll have your buzz back in no time!

It's ok

I first saw Brad Burton on a podcast called London Real. He's had lots of success in networking and as a motivational speaker. The book has some inspirational thoughts and can be funny and entertaining. The fact that he at one moment began delivering pizzas and then came out on top with his networking business is inspiring.

Shamans can be found thriving in the high-rise cities of South Korea, working with clients who are largely middle class and technologically sophisticated. Emphasizing the shaman's work as open and mutable, Kendall describes how gods and ancestors articulate the changing concerns of clients and how the ritual fame of these transactions has itself been transformed by urban sprawl, private cars, and zealous Christian proselytizing.

What. The. Fudge.

I'll start by saying I enjoyed the stop smoking book. I'll even go so far as to say it was quite revolutionary. No spoilers in here, but I haven't seen an approach like that before, and it helped me enormously. That being said....

If you read that one, you would be hard-pressed to believe the "stop worrying" book came from the same author. I wasted enough time reading the book, so I'll keep the review brief and pay it forward by saving you some of yours

- very short. This book would probably be 40 pages minus all the shenanigans with the layout. They literally would take a paragraph, increase the font size 5x, and stick it in the middle of the page with huge margins. I feel like I'm reading a more-rambling version of a daily quote tear-off calendar.

- no breakthrough "aha" moments. None. And this is coming from a guy who had already bought into the author's tactics and viewpoints in a previous book.

- filled with odd ramblings and rants. It came off well when he was talking about various establishments that keep the tobacco industry churning along, but it just sounds odd and disjointed when applied to this topic.

How annoying were the ramblings/rants? It doesn't matter who they would hire to read this. If anyone made an audiobook out of "Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Worrying", you'd want to pay good money to 2 year olds to screech in your ears, just to drown out the narrator.

(Pro Tip) Giving money to 2 year olds you don't know could get you in trouble in most countries, so keep a copy of this book with you as evidence - you can trust all charges will be dismissed.

I read everything Allen Carr has written. This book, along with all of his others, has a very definite effect on your subconscious mind even as you read it. I highly recommend all of his books. It is a joy to read.

Yet the role of institutions is negligible both in general equilibrium theory and in most neoclassical economic models. There is a burgeoning substantive interest in institutions ranging from social movements, to formal organizations, to states, and even international regimes.

Rational choice theorists have made great strides in elucidating the effects of institutions on a variety of social outcomes, but they have paid insufficient attention to the social dynamics that lead to the emergence of these institutions. Typically, these institutions have been assumed to be a given, rather than considered as outcomes requiring explanation in their own right. Sociological theorists, in contrast, have long appreciated the role of social structural constraints in the determination of outcomes but have neglected the role of individual agents.

Michael Hechter is professor emeritus in the department of Sociology at the University of Washington. He is the author of numerous books. He became an Elected Fellow to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2004 and has been featured in Who's Who. He is also currently on editorial boards for a numerous amount of journals.

Karl-Dieter Opp is professor of sociology at Univesitat Leipzig. He has been a Fellow of the European Academy of Sociology since 1999 and has been member of the Council and Treasurer since 2000. He is also current on the advisory board for the magazine Mind and Society.

Reinhard Wippler is professor of theoretical sociology at the University of Utrecht and scientific director of the Interuniversity Center for Sociological Theory and Methodology.

He is currently serving as visiting professor at the University of Washington, and before that was a Fellow of New College at Oxford University.
