By the end of the 1950s, Mizrahim, also known as Oriental Jewry, represented the ethnic majority of the Israeli Jewish population. Viewed as foreigners who came from culturally backward and distant lands, they suffered decades of socioeconomic, political, and educational injustices.
In this pioneering work, Roby traces the Mizrahi population's struggle for equality and civil rights in Israel. Although the daily "bread and work" demonstrations are considered the first political expression of the Mizrahim, Roby demonstrates the myriad ways in which they agitated for change. Drawing upon a wealth of archival sources, many only recently declassified, Roby details the activities of the highly ideological and politicized young Israel. Police reports, court transcripts, and protester accounts document a diverse range of resistance tactics, including sit-ins, tent protests, and hunger strikes. Roby shows how the Mizrahi intellectuals and activists in the 1960s began to take note of the American civil rights movement, gaining inspiration from its development and drawing parallels between their experience and that of other marginalized ethnic groups. The Mizrahi Era of Rebellion shines a light on a largely forgotten part of Israeli social history, one that profoundly shaped the way Jews from African and Asian countries engaged with the newly founded state of Israel.

About the Author
Bryan K. Roby received his PhD in Middle Eastern studies from the University of Manchester. He has recently completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at New York University and has lectured on Israeli and Middle Eastern history throughout Europe, England, and the United States.

Killer Guitar!

Freddie King was a blues master with both the guitar and voice. And this folio is nice because it combines both vocal and instrumental pieces. Freddie played with fingerpicks, which yielded his bright articulate tone. So you'll want to consider that if you want the same effect; though not me, I can't hack those things. The tab is well done and like all Hal Leonard folios, is expertly engraved and edited. The only tune really missing here is 'Going Down', however, many other classic cuts are included.

Fun Stuff

The instrumentals are all enjoyable to play, yet still challenging for an intermediate player like myself (I settled on learning most at about 3/4 speed). Any one of his 3-measures-long 'licks' make for a good aerobic exercise for your fingers. Unfortunately its impossible to hunt down all the songs in this book, I've only been successful finding the instrumentals. I highly recommend this book especially if you're looking for something fun to practice. You get a nice sense of accomplishment each day. The type of boost most players need when in a rut.

As 5 star as it gets

There were a couple of stingy reviewers who, by their comments, appeared to like it and voiced no concern but only gave 3 or 4 stars; to each their own, but...

Freddie King tragically died two young, but by many accounts was more creative and virtuosic than the other blues greats like B.B. and Albert. Clapton revered and only tried to emulate Freddie. One of the things I like the most about Freddie is that he wasn't just blues, a lot of his stuff was very rockin and also had a strong Texas and Country electric blues thing going. If you want to be a serious rock and roll guitarist (as apposed to the whiny grunge that passes for rock these days for the younger crowd), I would recommend equal parts Keith Richards, Chuck Berry, and Freddie King.

As for the book, I've been living with 5 of the tabs for quite a few months, just about have the key parts note for note, and they are spot on. Really, what more can you want out of life? There are a few books out there like this and some of Wolf Marshall's Stones transcriptions that are as close to an instruction manual on how to be a rock or blues god as you're going to get; the rest is up to you! Also, nice selection of songs. One critique would be the songs are mostly earlier Freddie, would love to find some tab of more of his 70's stuff.

J-Horror phenomenon

First off, I have yet to see the films. However, I've read the "Ring" saga and "Parasite Eve." This definitely rips off from previous J-horror tropes, but is much more difficult to understand. I still don't get what happened at the end. But I can tell you, just like in "Ring," I couldn't stop reading until I got to the end! Let it be advised that this book is gory, graphic and very repetitive. I will have no choice but to watch the films to make sense out of it.

This book does not follow the same story as either of the movie versions

I bought this because I am obsessed with the Ju-on/ Grudge series, but it didn't really live up to my expectations. In my opinion the book reads like fan fiction, and it strayed from both the Japanese and American story tellings. I bought this because I wanted more of the Saeki's background but was very disappointed how their story was rewritten. I would recommend this only to a die hard Ju-on fan. The writing is sadly, just not that great.

SEE THE MOVIES FIRST, THEN READ THE NOVEL!

This novelization covers the Ju-on cycle; Ju-on: The Curse, Ju-on: The Grudge, and Ju-on II. It also provides spoilers for the American films The Grudge and the Grudge 2.

The original Japanese direct-to-video short films in The Curse are diffcult to find in the US, and fortunately they aren't absolutely necessary to understanding and appreciating the rest of the Ju-on series. However, the novelization will provide more details of the backstory that the viewer will appreciate having. My sugggestion is to watch the films, then read the novel to clarify anything that seemed confusing. The story is not told in a linear manner, and it can be difficult to follow at times, but the book is very helpful here.

A great read with excellent graphics!

Hogan's book is a short, but comprehensive analysis of the golf swing. His stated purpose of giving the average weekend golfer the tools to develop a repeatable golf swing has, in my opinion, been met. The fundamentals he espouses are few, and simple enough to implement without causing one to overthink. I found his views about grip and stance, and their importance in setting up the rest of the swing, particularly helpful. If you're a student of the game, this book is a prerequisite before reading the multitude of expert analyses of Hogan's swing that are available elsewhere. The advanced golfer interested in developing his/her knowledge of shaping shots and ball flight won't find information here. But if you're like me and want to develop better consistency of contact with all your clubs and eliminate anxiety as you stand over the ball, then this book is for you.

Great Guide to Better Golf

As a long-time, infrequent and high-handicap golfer, I've found this book to be invaluable in helping me develop consistency and length in all my shots.
I've probably read this book, or parts of it, dozens of times. I now find that I can identify what part of Hogan's advice I've failed to follow nearly every time I hit a bad shot. Slices, which used to be a staple of my game, have dropped significantly, and I now can understand their cause.
I also find that pro advice has been helpful to identify flaws in my swing that aren't anticipated by Hogan and that addressing these flaws has improved the results I get from following Hogan's advice.
I only wish I had the amount of time that Hogan advises for practicing. I figure it will take me more than the few months Hogan predicts to get my scores from the 30+ handicap to low teens, but after only one season, I've seen significant improvement and have gained confidence in my swing.

Excellent for New Golfers - Learn Good Habits Early

I can't rate this book highly enough for new golfers.

I started with golf approximately 2-3 weeks ago. The most "golf" I played before was mini-golf and, of course, Wii Golf.

I played nine holes and went to the driving range. I was terrible, as expected. Inconsistant, my back hurt after, and I probably shot an 80...in nine holes.

I bought this book, determined to not build bad habits.

I read the book in a night For a week, I practiced my grip, posture, and swing. I went to the driving range and it was night and day. I still have a LONG way to go, but the improvement was remarkable and noticeable.

The book is well written. Hogan's instructions are easy to follow and there are many illustrations included. Hogan did a great job explaining the "why" for grip, position, etc. He also gave sage advice when you notice a problem. Don't focus on the problem alone. There's a reason in your swing why it is happening. At first, I shrugged off the idea of keeping a notebook when I golf, but I now see the reason. Ben Hogan doesn't need my endorsement as a great golfer, but he has it.

Only half a book

I already have George's CR 8.5 book and I think its great. When I saw the description for this book I was very interested in reading it. Unfortunately, once I got the book in my hands I was let down.
As I went through the chapters I saw that it was really a "Tips and Tricks" book. This is mostly stuff that I already read in his 8.5 book. So I didn't see much new information. But the really bad part was when I got to page 200. The book was over! Yes, this "400" page book is only 200 pages.
The last 200 pages are a printout of the Crystal help file. I've read books that have what I consider too many tables copied out of a help file. But this book goes over the top by having a full 50% of its content being a copy of the help file. What was George and his publisher thinking? It reminds me of the Tom Petty song The Last DJ, "The guys at the top want to see how much you'll pay for what you used to get for free."
In summary, the first half of the book is a lot of repeated tips from his 8.5 book. The second half of the book is worthless. If you want a good CR book, get George's 8.5 or 9.0 book and pass this one by. I'm shocked to see that a great CR author such as George put with his name on the cover.

Crystal Guru in a Book

If you're just getting started with Crystal Reports, you've had some introductory training and know your way around the basics fairly well, but you're just not sure if some particular thing is possible or how to do it, this is the book for you. (Even if you are not just getting started!) Some of us are lucky and have a Crystal guru in the cubicle next door for those one-off questions; the rest can look them up in this book.
The first half of the book is tips and tricks, some more tricky than others, but all in the realm of good-to-know. I consider myself a sophisticated Crystal Reports developer and yet I found tidbits of knowledge that I had never come across before. The topics covered are broad, encompassing report formatting, formula creation, grouping enhancements, and more. Putting just some of the tips into practice will make you look like the guru.
The second half of the book is a Crystal Reports formula reference that I did not find much more helpful than the Crystal Reports help files. However, the tips section is more than worth the price of the book!

Good tips - but lots of repetition

The author of this book is also the author of the various editions of the standard 'Crystal Reports: The Complete Guide' book. This book tries to pick up where that book left off--in other words, this book tries to be a resource for intermediate to advanced users.

The book does present numerous interesting tips and a few really useful strategies for report development. However, the examples are not particularly thorough and there simply are not enough of them to really cover the breadth of the product. If used as an "idea-generator" book for a mid-level developer it would be useful, but it is not a comprehensive guide to advanced techniques.

As other reviewers have already mentioned, about half of the book is just reprinted information from the electronic help files that are included with Crystal Reports. Of course having them nicely organized and bound in printed form is very useful--but the book is pretty pricey for a simple reference manual.

I read and enjoyed the book, I learned a few things and it gave me some ideas, but in general it was a bit dissappointing. If work's buying it for you--great! If it's your own money--well, you might wish you hadn't spent it.

About the Author

Sunandan Misra began his adult life by doing what was expected of him. After studying electrical engineering, a short stint with a steel manufacturer taught him that he didn’t care for that line of work. He then studied automotive engineering at the postgraduate level and taught undergraduates at the university before eventually leaving engineering behind altogether to walk his own path.

He began his illustrious writing career with a smattering of automotive features on various blogs. After a year, he became an op-ed columnist for the Odisha edition of the Political and Business Daily, a daily English-language broadsheet newspaper, entertaining (or torturing, some might say) readers with his offbeat commentary about urban Indian society. He also became a regular feature writer for Auto India magazine.

He currently resides with his wife, Priti, and her innumerable soft toys. Despite this, he has never been treated by a shrink.

Definitely stands out as the name says!

Musings of a misfit gives us a fresh look at our day to day lives in a comic way. By taking our lives too seriously, we sometimes ignore some of the random quirkiness that actually makes our life interesting. The narrative is quite fast-paced and its definitely a page turner. I didnt have any prior expectations when I bought it, only to find out that its quite a good read for a lazy weekend.
Highly recommended.

Tracie L. Miller-Nobles

Tracie L. Miller-Nobles, CPA,�received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from Texas A&M University and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in adult learning also at Texas A&M University. She is an Associate Professor at Austin Community College, Austin, TX. Previously she served as a Senior Lecturer at Texas State University, San Marcos, TX, and has served as department chair of the Accounting, Business, Computer Information Systems, and Marketing/Management department at Aims Community College, Greeley, CO. In addition, Tracie has taught as an adjunct professor at University of Texas and has public accounting experience with Deloitte Tax LLP and Sample & Bailey, CPAs.

Tracie is a recipient of the Texas Society of CPAs Rising Star Award, TSCPAs Outstanding Accounting Educator Award, NISOD Teaching Excellence Award and the Aims Community College Excellence in Teaching Award. She is a member of the Teachers of Accounting at Two Year Colleges, the American Accounting Association, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Texas State Society of Certified Public Accountants. She is currently serving on the Board of Directors as secretary/webmaster of Teachers of Accounting at Two Year Colleges, as a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants nominations committee, and as chair of the Texas Society of CPAs Relations with Education Institutions committee. In addition, Tracie served on the Commission on Accounting Higher Education: Pathways to a Profession.

Tracie has spoken on such topics as using technology in the classroom, motivating non-business majors to learn accounting, and incorporating active learning in the classroom at numerous conferences. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her friends and family and camping, kayaking, and quilting.

Brenda L. Mattison

Brenda L. Mattison�has a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in accounting, both from Clemson University. She is currently an Accounting Instructor at Tri-County Technical College in Pendleton, South Carolina. Brenda previously served as Accounting Program Coordinator at TCTC and has prior experience teaching accounting at Robeson Community College, Lumberton, North Carolina; University of South Carolina Upstate, Spartanburg, South Carolina; and Rasmussen Business College, Eagan, Minnesota. She also has accounting work experience in retail and manufacturing businesses.

Brenda is a member of Teachers of Accounting at Two Year Colleges and the American Accounting Association. She is currently serving on the board of directors as Vice President of Conference Administration of Teachers of Accounting at Two Year Colleges.�

Brenda previously served as Faculty Fellow at Tri-County Technical College. She has presented at several conferences on topics including active learning, course development, and student engagement.�

In her spare time, Brenda enjoys reading and spending time with her family. She is also an active volunteer in the community, serving her church and other organizations.

Ella Mae Matsumura

Ella Mae Matsumura, Ph.D.�is a professor in the Department of Accounting and Information Systems in the School of Business at the University of Wisconsin—Madison, and is affiliated with the university’s Center for Quick Response Manufacturing. She received an A.B. in mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of British Columbia. Ella Mae has won two teaching excellence awards at the University of Wisconsin—Madison and was elected as a lifetime fellow of the university’s Teaching Academy, formed to promote effective teaching. She is a member of the university team awarded an IBM Total Quality Management Partnership grant to develop curriculum for total quality management education.

Ella Mae was a co-winner of the 2010 Notable Contributions to Management Accounting Literature Award. She has served in numerous leadership positions in the American Accounting Association (AAA). She was coeditor of�Accounting Horizons�and has chaired and served on numerous AAA committees. She has been secretary-treasurer and president of the AAA’s Management Accounting Section. Her past and current research articles focus on decision making, performance evaluation, compensation, supply chain relationships, and sustainability. She coauthored a monograph on customer profitability analysis in credit unions.

WRONG BOOK.

Wrong book. Don't me be fooled. It isn't available when you first think you are buying Financial and Managerial accounting. In my case, I only needed Financial accounting... but when I clicking on the kindle e-reader tab, it switched to Managerial accounting. Not happy and am trying to get a refund.
