Roger Oakland heads to university with the morals and values of his Christian parents intact. When he enters school, he believes in God as a Creator, but soon exchanges this for Darwinian evolution. After graduation, he begins teaching biology (with an emphasis on evolution) at the same university. Challenged one day by a young Christian student, Roger mocks the whole idea of Creation and God.
Through a series of painful circumstances, including the death of a baby son, he begins searching for answers to life - until one day he has a dramatic experience when hit with the realization that God created everything.
Becoming a creationist and later a committed born-again Christian, Roger's life is radically changed, and he is filled with a passion to tell others about God. Little does he know at the time that he will travel throughout the world to share his message.
Through his research, he finds a connection between evolution and the New Age. He discovers that multitudes of people are rejecting the idea of a Creator God and replacing it with an impersonal panentheistic "God." Much to his alarm, Roger learns that New Age concepts, such as this evolutionary "God," are being absorbed into mainstream Christianity.
As time progresses, Roger realizes that the Christian church is heading down a dangerous road of apostasy. He comes head to head with Christian leaders whom he learns are guiding believers toward a one-world religion via the Roman Catholic church through mysticism and the emerging church.
The cost of telling the truth and warning the church is high for Roger Oakland. Within his own denomination, Calvary Chapel, he begins to see signs of spiritual deception. He works tirelessly to teach and warn about the coming apostasy. Eventually, he realizes that both he and his message are being rejected by leaders of the movement that he tried to support for so many years.

Bad science and the world lured him away from God--Good science and the unmet needs of his soul brought him back.

Roger left his family farm to attend university in the big city. He was taught that evolution was a scientific fact, and he accepted that without question. Surely his professors would not mislead him, would they? Surely they were just being scientific about it and had no personal bias on the issue, right?
Roger experiences life, then begins to question the scientific certainty of evolution, and then sees that evolution is not based on tested, repeatable, scientific facts, but on conjecture of people who are scientists. The scientific method is not used by evolutionists to provide tests that verify their hypotheses, so if the scientific method is not used, how exactly is it science? Roger's questions and reevaluation leads him to reject evolution and return to biblical creationism from a scientific perspective. He finds that there is a lot of good science, based on evidence, that points to biblical creation. In turn, he returns to Christ as well.
The book is a fascinating read. In the later chapters, he departs from his journey from evolution to creationism and deals with the departure of certain people within Calvary Chapel from biblical Christianity. This is interesting and sad, to be sure, but departs from the original focus of the book. So, I give it 4 stars, instead of 5.

Inspiring Apologetics Autobiography by Roger Oakland

This is a simply written, inspiring autobiography written by Roger Oakland. Through God-ordained painful circumstances, including the death of his baby son, Roger began searching for answers to life in the bible. It is God's pure, holy Word in the bible that is seen at work throughout Roger's story.
Even though this is an autobiography, it is an apologetic autobiography.

3) Contrasting the Light of the World to the Darkness of This Age

Excellent testimony of how Jesus works

Roger Oakland is that rare individual who stands for the truth and is obedient to Jesus and is willing to pay the price. Roger warned the Calvary Chapel Christian Churches Board of Directors that false teaching (against God's word, the inerrant Bible scripture) was going on inside many Calvary Chapels. For Rogers stand for truth he was removed from the Board and "thrown out" of the church by the very same church and board members he had faithfully served and supported for many, many years. Roger chose to follow Jesus and share the one and only true gospel and sound the trumpet that the falling away foretold by Paul 2,000 years ago (Acts 20) was happening INSIDE these "Christian" churches. The enemy (Satan and his demons) are very, very cunning and will mix .001% error with 99.999% gospel truth so as to deceive MANY and lead them to eternal damnation. Thank God for people like Roger Oakland to stand for truth and share the gospel and his personal testimony how Jesus and His word saved him and how the Holy Spirit guided him daily.
