A Great Guide for Update and Review

This comprehensive guide to documentation of social work services brings those of us who have not attended school in 2 or more decades into the present with references by new age theorists/clinicians. 12 Chapters including exercises at the end of each challange, refresh, teach, re-enforce the new methods of documenting client history in today's world of social science or psychology; coupled with local agency and governmental privacy requirements.
Entering a 13 month course in Addictions Certification after 30years out of the field, Nancy Sidell gave me the insight needed to communicate with reasonable proficiency. I bought the book after a preview of chapters and What Not to Document, in ch3, Laying the Foundation; is WHY. The Addictions course omitted necessary academic details needed to refresh a student like myself regarding the documentation process. Social Work Documentation gave descriptives, case recordings, agency formats useful in TODAY'S market. As a graduate practical nurse of 1989-90 and social scientist from the 1970's, documenting perspective is one of detail, clarity, subjective/objective assessment; Jargon,short-cuts okay. NOT anymore, valid explanations are given to appropriate vs inappropriate with non-judgemental notations written about clientele. Simple, concise, easy reading.

Great book for a boring topic

No one really wants to read books like this. Always dry and difficult to care about unless you need an answer. But for the dry topic, it is a great book. It really lays out specific instructions for simple documentation and goes all the way up to pretty difficult items to document. It is a very clear book.

A Must Have Undergraduates and Master Level SW Students

This book is well written and has excellent exercises at the end of each section. It will enhance your writing skills as well as your ability to recognise different strenghts within yourself. Purchase this book for your library you will not regret having this as a go to when writing assignments for class, at practicums or work.
